The Importance of Sexuality in Medieval Discussions

sexuality and how we think about medieval figures is something that I really love thinking about. It's an issue of applying a terminology, a modern terminology, onto a past where it didn't exist. We can't talk about pre-modern figures existing in a vacuum - they weren't just gay or straight. They are fluid, expressive figures who have their own feelings,. Their own affections, their own sexualities. So for modern ease, for modern discussions, we often think about people falling into that umbrella of queer history. This gets us to perhaps avoid a question of how we ascribe sexuality to persons on the path. Perhaps a different question there is do we have a right to?
