Introduction
Interchocanteric femur fractures are extra-capsular fractures of the proximal femur. Diagnosis is made with orthogonal radiographs of the hip in patients that present with an inability to bear weight. In elderly patients, these fractures result from low-energy falls; in young patients, they're caused by high-energy trauma. The relevant anatomy to be aware of regarding interchocanters relates primarily to the osteology.
