The crown had revoked massachusetts bay's charter in 16 84 and put it under the rule of a larger political unit known as the dominion of new england. Under an appointed royal governor, sir edmund androsand this was very unpopular. Andros was connected to the anglican church, the english church from which ritans had separated.
