The History of IBM

IBM created the Special Computer APL Machine Portable or SCAMP. It was a research project meant to create a single user computer. In 1972, Dr. Paul Friedel made a plan to build SCAMP within six months and then have it ready to demonstrate to IBM executives. The team decided to go with many off-the-shelf components because there just wasn't time to develop everything in-house from scratch.
