Zero COVID in China - What Was the Response?
Every single person out of that protest last night was taking a serious personal risk by being there. Any public display of criticism of the government can very often lead to people being arrested, charged with trumped up charges and sometimes disappearing. The surveillance state here is so sophisticated that if they wanted to, they could probably track down almost everyone who was there. There was this kind of really moving moment where the crowd would sort of spontaneously applaud anyone who spoke to us. That real appreciation of just how brave it is.
