On January 23, 1556, the deadliest earthquake and recorded history took place. Approximately 800 to 850,000 people died in this shocker. In 1557, Macau was given to the Portuguese as a trading base. And there were still 88 years left in the Ming dynasty until the sad and tragic ending in 1644.
