Why Are There So Many Female Rulers in the Sixth Century?
Two sisters in law ruled towards the end of the sixth century over the frankish empire. Both came to power after their husbands were assassinated and ruled as regents for a succession of sons and grandsons. I think they're very worth studying, because we have these historical records that kind of bring them to life. They're flawed, they're brilliant, their iron willed, and they accomplish quite a lot. And they accomplish so much during one of the darkest periods in human history. So i think it's just completely amazing that they were able to accomplish what they did, given the odds were stacked against them.
