The History of Mathematics and Rhetoric

The scholarship at the intersection of mathematics and rhetoric is not recent, but it's also not necessarily continuous. From very early on, there is a sense that, well, mathematics really involves demonstration. It doesn't really involve the kind of argumentation that rhetorician study. So therefore, it's kind of off the table as something being interested to them. People don't think about it in rhetorical theory. They don't imagine that there is any kind of proproductive research or thinking that could be done by looking at the inner faces of those two fields.
