Is There a Negative Effect on Engagement?
The more effort you have to put into understanding something, the harder it is to feel connected to it. It creates weariness, or resistance or distrust. The writer's level of effort can go down if they don't make their ideas easy to understand and care about. When the fort is less the opportunity for engagement is high. And when these two cycles kind of overlap, they can really harm the information.
