Deng Xiaoping's Return to Jiang Qing
Mao made a call to the Xinjiang County Tractor Factory near Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. Deng had been laying low there since 1969. Mao's intention was to use Deng as a lever to counter Joe in the government. This is the time when the core group that surrounded Jiang Qing came to be known as the Gang of Four.
