There's the monumental mode of historical consciousness, when you look at history as a story from which you can get ideals and examples. The second mode is where the person who practices this mode of history actually becomes the past. It's like the people who want to preserve the past because the past is what constitutes the present. These are, this is our heritage, these are our roots, we need to remember.
