The Purification of the Sanctuary in Yom Kippur
The ancient view of Yom Kippur is somewhat different from that which came to predominate in later Judaism. In the centuries following the destruction of the second temple of Jerusalem, atonement for the sins of the people eventually replaced the purification of the sanctuary as the central theme on this day. That was pragmatic because we don't have a temple, so we can't talk about purifying the sacred space anymore. The idea that the people are sort of subsumed within the reset button is actually there. It's applied to the sanctuaries we'll see.
