Is the Alcohol Harm Paradox Getting Worse?
The more affluent you are, the more likely you are to drink. But male alcohol specific death rates are four times higher in deprived areas. Scientists think it may be to do with heavy episodic drinking for younger people. In 2020 there were around 9,000 deaths from alcohol specific causes in the UK.
