The Iranian Revolution of 1979
In 1979, women started taking up the veil as a symbol of opposition to the Shah. Khomeini took power because there were very few other systems or alternatives. The Islamic Republic have now instituted this veil as mandatory. They have curbed women's freedoms in terms of what they can wear and do.
