The Importance of Oddity in Weird Fiction

The first text that we read in preparation for this recording was notes on the writing of Weird Fiction. A very short essay that Lovecraft wrote, I think it's actually from a letter he wrote. My reason for writing stories is to give myself the satisfaction of visualizing more clearly and detailably and stably. What he's saying essentially is that stories begin with vague impressions. That the key element of weirdness is the mood. Some things that happen or certain things you see might seem quite innocuous in themselves but they radiate an eldritch energy which hints at something deeper.
