Brutus Says, Can We Kill Anthony?
Theatre of envy by rene gerart, who does this analysis of shakespeare a number different plays. He spends a lot of time on julius caesar, talking about mometic rivalry and scapegoating. And he argues that brutus is saying here, we can't butcher shakespeare because antony holds up the blood in the body. So if it's not butchery, what is it? It's a sacrifice fit for the gods. We're going to carve him very skilfully, just like after you offer the sacrifice to the gods, then you take the knife and you carve up the body. You don't go after it like a wild animal.
