CPS has apologized unreservedly to a woman whose rape case was dropped. Defence lawyers claimed she had an episode of a rare sleepwalking condition called sex somnia. CPS now says it was wrong to drop the case and it should have gone to court. Police in England and Wales recorded over 67,000 rape offences in the year to December 2021. That's the highest recorded annual figure to date and yet just over 1500 prosecutions.
