Gabriel Borage was just 36 when he was sworn in as President of Chile. He represents a new brand of progressive left politics in Latin America. His hopes of major constitutional reform have been dashed after the Chilean people voted against a radical overhaul of the Pinochet era constitution. Even his promise of clean government has been tarnished by allegations of corruption involving a party in his leftist coalition.
