The Roanoke Colonization in the New World
There's not too much in terms of what is written down reactions to Roanoke at the time, but we do know that it's something that John White for the rest of his life agonizes about because obviously he's left behind his daughter and his granddaughter. But what we do see is that the turn of the century, as interest in colonization in Virginia is starting to increase again. In a play called Eastwood Ho, they kind of make jokes about these lost colonists who are said to now be living amongst the Native populations. So although that's a good 20 years later, the fact that it appears in this play tells us that it probably has been there in the sort of English psyche
