A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs

The History of the Grateful Dead

There are only two points in time where it makes sense to do a podcast episode on the Grateful Dead. Late 1967 and early 1968, when the San Francisco scene they were part of was at its most culturally relevant. I can't realistically leave them out of the story until 1988, so it has to be 1968. But the songs they're most remembered for are those they wrote between 1970 and 1972. And those songs are influenced by artists and events we haven't yet covered in the podcast who will be getting their own episodes in the future.
