Diagnostic Tests and Screening Tests

A diagnostic test is designed to confirm if the patient has the disease based on if they're like a high probability. The features of a diagnostic test are pretty much named in your learning objective. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value. They're all terms that we use to describe the test and how good or bad it is. I'm going to throw into their accuracy and likelihood ratio and as we go along you'll learn what those mean. There's no perfect or ideal diagnostic test but new tests are validated against a gold standard.
