Edward Teller and Oppenheimer were friends at Los Alamos. In 1954, Teller urged that his security clearance should be stripped from him because of his suspicious advice on the issue of the super bomb. So this is a Shakespearean story in many ways. It's a story of men with large intelligence and large egos and strong disagreements. And as you alluded to, this division is also supported by ego, by that posturing in that scientific community.
