I learned to play in the mid-70s and Red Paul McGreill was strong proponent of the golden point, which is your opponent's five point. Over the years McGreill changed his mind a little bit on the golden point. What we know about this is contained in the introduction to the reprint of Paul's book. He said he'd made a mistake. And there was nothing beyond that comment to back up.
