Is There Anything We Can Say About Anglo-Saxon Paganism?

Our understanding of paganism has very little to do with genuine historical paganism. The hunt for Anglo-Saxon paganism is at something of a dead end. We can say that the Pantheon included deities found elsewhere in the Germanic world, but they are unlikely to have been identical to their old Norse counterparts. Their ritual sites seemed to have been oriented around burial mounds much as they were in Scandinavia. They also seem to have believed in elves and dwarves, who had been fully incorporated into a Christian cosmology.
