Classification of Fifth Metatarsal Base Fractures

The head of the fifth metatarsal articulates with the proximate phalanx to form the metatarsal phalangial joint. The peroneous tertius inserts on the dorsal diaphasis is a more common site of fracture. Non operative management includes protected weight bearing in a stiff soled boot or as well as non-operative cast for six to eight weeks.
