How I Learned to Treat Texts as Sacred
Stephanie grew up with two great readers for parents, and i think i learned to have a sense of the sacredness of texts from them. My father is a great lover of the psalms. And sometimes when i was a kid, i would sit in the back yard with him and i would read his psalms out loud to him,. And that felt very sacred. But i also was read to a great deal by my mother. A group of strangers was drawn together for a common purpose, to listen and to have pleasure m in language. Nothing is lost by thinking of both of those experiences as experiences of sacred reading. Am, and a whole lot is gained.
