Before the war he got his first opportunity playing as a 1920 year old for wust usher. He made over 2000 runs and makes a serious century at Lord's in 1952. In 1953, 54, they're on their way to the Caribbean from what becomes the infamous Len Hutton-led tour of the West Indies. Charles may have thought he was going for similar jollys but it wasn't like that. And because the West Indies weren't willing to pay for him to go, they claimed he was their sixth-eighth player. As we know now, I didn't play out that way!
