The Illuminati and the German Mystics
Most Lodges found the Illuminati to be a young, boisterous group with no real clout. Many Germans felt the federation was simply an alliance of martinists designed to stamp out the mystics. By 1784, the Illuminati had over 650 verified members. Though Vice-Haupt claimed that number was well over 2,500 as he counted non-Illuminati Lodges whose leaders were Illuminati members.
