Introduction

On this day 50 years ago, the first battalion of the british army's parashute regiment opened fire on a civil rights march in derry. 13 unarmed civilians were dead, many of them very young people. No irish person who was alive at that time will ever forget their feelings that day and the subsequent days. My guest to day, amon mc cann, was on that march. Amon is a journalist, author of a wonderful book called war and an irish town,. which was published the year after bloody sunday.
