Is There a Difference Between Science and Natural Philosophy?
The business of studying nature through a rational lens has been going on for centuries. Way before science became modern, people studied the natural world and they studied it in a rational way. There are various different disciplines that coalesce from the 17th century onwards into one overarching discipline which by the 19th century becomes professionalised as science. So if we think about the ancient thinkers then say Aristotle, he wouldn't have thought of himself as a scientist. But there are various different enterprises and intellectual approaches that constitute that overall category of science.
