Tashilumpo, a Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Exile in South India

Tashilumpo is one of the most important monasteries for Tibetan Buddhists. It was founded over 500 years ago in Shigatsu, Tibet but has now moved to South India. In 1949 China sent troops and established control over Tibet - a position it still holds today. Tens of thousands of Tibetans fled their homeland including spiritual leader Dalai Lama. Simon Broughton recently visited Tashilumpingo on its 50th anniversary. The monastery prompted some deeper thoughts about endurance and change.
