How Did You Evolve in the Labor Movement?
There are times when there does need to be independent action of a union bureaucracy. Clearly the labor movement has to have some level of independence from the Democratic party. If it doesn't, it slips into this kind of conservatism and it can't be the dynamic social movement that you want it to become. So how would you sort of summarize your evolution on these questions over time?
