The Importance of a Pop Shield in a Country Style Vocal Performance
As we move from 5 inches between mic and performer to 7 then 9 that there's a greater capture of ambiance. Pop shield is essential for diffusing plosives before they hit the mic's diaphragm. You should set this up at least 3 inches from the mic. Some vocalists just will not give their best performance whilst having to remain static in the recording space. And if this is the case it's actually better to capture an improved vocal performance with a slightly inferior sound than a substandard vocalperformance with a comparatively superior sound.
