How Did We Get Here?

How we got here is a complicated story with more debate than disagreement in the thane an concensus in literature. A 20 % of democrats owned up to occasionally wishing mass death on fellow americans who don't vote like they do. And increasing numbers of us tell polsters that we don't have any close friends who voted for the other candidate. How in the hell did he win? I don't know anyone who voted for him. Meanwhile, we've been self segregating mentally as well. If it your job to design a constitution from scratch, how would you propose to govern a country like the one that i've just described? Let me suggest an answer as gently as possible.
