Black Britain and the Civil Rights Struggle in America

There was at the time a real awareness of the sort of struggle for civil rights that was going on in America. And there was also interest in decolonization in West Africa, for example. Martin Luther King came to Newcastle in 1967 to receive an honorary doctorate and talked about how it was important that racism wasn't allowed to exist in Britain. So those links I found really interesting. But I think people talked about this a lot with Black Lives Matter - we're not actually that familiar with British history as far as race is concerned.
