Fusion involves fusing atoms together at a temperature of millions of degrees. Scientists around the world are working on developing practical fusion reactors. I don't think, however, we're ever going to see fusion reactors that can be small enough to be incorporated into the electrical system of a vehicle. And to be fair, the taka back to the future too, was always intended to be whimsical.
