By 1998, John Bender was looking for both a safe haven for his money and a purpose for his life. By the time he was in his early 30s, he set up a hedge fund that was worth $500 to $600 million. The benders decided to use their fortune to start a refuge for wildlife. They named it Borachion after a native plant.
