Intraarticular steroid injections can be both diagnostic and therapeutic, but ultimately hip arthroscopy with labral debredments or repair may be required for those who fail conservative measures. The provocative test of taking the hip from a flexed, externally rotated and abducted position to extension is that of an anterior labral tear.
