The Importance of Permanent Magnets in Portable Electronics

People pretty much ignored them up until about mid last century. But they do make, as Jonathan pointed out, very good permanent magnets. That's an important element in lots of electronics. And some of the other applications involve things like displays and various other electronic components. The European in particular was used to produce color displays.
