The Conjecture of Seasons
The seasons and the weather were very important to ancient people but they didn't have anything in their world view that indicated why one season morphed into another. There's nothing in winter that seems to foreshadow that spring will come so it was a bit terrifying for them. The true explanation on the other hand which is the the tilt of the axis of the earth tells you exactly what's different about the end of the winter from the beginning.
