The Leninist Marxist Revolution in the Soviet Union
In the early to mid 1920s there's enough of a nexus in the intersection between the German Frankfort school branch of western Marxism and then the eastern Bolshevik version that you can't really easily separate it. The founding of the school probably never would have happened had they not had the successful supposedly successful revolution occurring in in the Soviet Union just a few years earlier so they needed that invigoration to start their own research program but it's after that point they start to split. It inspired this what essentially became the Frankfort Institute that became the FrankFort school of thought which critical theory is born out of.
