How Did People Survive the Great Depression?
Even while people were grubbing through garbage cans in big cities looking for something to eat, mules and horses were ploughing up cornfields. How did people survive the great depression? Well, in all kinds of resilient ways, many did not. The suicide rate through the 19 thirties spikes. Family formation is depressed. People had fewer children. They got married at lower rates. This is all statistically demonstrable ind ofthe normal cor human activities and getting married, having children and so on,. All that slows down rather measurably in the great depression. And our next question is, were minorities at a disadvantage during the great Depression?
