Is There Something Going on With the Self Driving Cars?

Ford CEO Illan musk has made a series of promises about self-driving cars that have not come to fruition. He's been accused as coming to make use of workers who are being cut by machinery, or losing the use of their arms and legs because they're exposed to toxic fumes. Has he faced any consequences for his actions? I think because he's had some of these smash hit successes like tesla and space x, he gets the benefit of the doubt to a degree that almost nobody else on earth gets.
