What Is New Humanitarianism?

This is the decade of the so-called new humanitarianism that's both redefining the purposes of US military intervention in the language of human rights, and also marking a transformation of left politics toward a focus on relieving human suffering rather than fight for equality, justice, or material redistribution. So it's sort of a cultural milieu that's Both redefining the language, remaking the language of American imperialism and remaking thelanguage of the left which ostensibly exists to resist and oppose said imperialism. Right? And one powerful image of that suffering subject is the traumatized subject.
