Is the American Empire Part of the US Empire?
The book is about soldiers' letters and the ways that we might sometimes focus on the folks who are away from home doing the extraordinary thing versus how life changes at home. In some ways, thinking a lot about the visibility or invisibility of the women that a lot of these men are writing to is something that's sort of underneath the surface for me as someone who ended up writing a book that is mostly centering soldiers.
