The subaxial cervical spine injury classification system involves three main categories, injury morphology, discoligamentous complex, and urologic status. The overall injury severity score is obtained by summing the scores from each category. hyper-extension injuries usually result in central cord injuries. rotational injuries will usually cause soft tissue injury or high cervical injury. And pure axial load will usually result in cervical burst fractures.
