Toxic Substances Control Act (TOSCO): A New Approach to Risk Management

The US Environmental Protection Agency reworked its risk determinations for the first 10 existing chemicals to be subject to risk evaluation under the Toxic Substances Control Act. This year, the TOSCO programs focus will shift to addressing the unreasonable risks identified in those risk determinations. The agency has not been considering PPE at the risk evaluation stage but said when it comes to risk management, if industry workplace best practices that are already in place are sufficiently protective,. It could simply codify those existing practices in a risk management role.
