The Rise of Rules-Based Knowledge Engineering

I was always kind of like, why wouldn't we use statistics and probability? Every other science uses it for things like linguists use it. And I remember getting advice from a professor that he wrote to in New York saying, yeah, don't mess with statistics. It won't be good for your career. But when you look at a lot of the products and stuff, I see a lot of still rules-based AI being used in concert with statistical and probabilistic techniques. The secret, though, is that you look at Google and they have their knowledge graph. That's a form of rules-based knowledge engineering.
