The amazing thing is that we've probably got the spelling wrong. That's a small thing to make a huge difference. Up until the famous edition of the poem on Brunenbo in 1938, most editors denoted the double-end spelling and indeed preferred it. And since this edition came out in 1938, Alice Campbell argued that the original A version of the Chronicle with a single end must be the original. Everybody's accepted that, but wrongly, because it's not the original unit. It was one of the reasons why I never put my Ethelstone book out. But I'm inching towards it, in our ratio. We'll look after that in the near future.
