There are a couple things that database can do. A couple, you know, a couple rough solutions that have some trade-offs. One is atomic rights. Some databases that support atomic updates that effectively combine the reading right and update at the same time. Single threading,. forcing all atomic operations to happen serially through a single thread. This is basically making everything run through one mechanism.
